In Romania , when Nicolae Ceausescu was removed from power and executed in 1989, many people hoped for a better life and expected to enjoy their freedom, even if it meant working hard to gain independence. But even following the Revolution former communists continued to dominate the government until 1996, from when a series of coalition governments have, to this day, assumed control and struggled to lift Romania from the difficulties that arose from years of brutal Dictatorship.
Today , many years after the Revolution, the people of Romania continue to suffer. Unemployment continues to rise and prices are soaring. Money is short and poor families find it more and more difficult to take care of their children.
For many years a Special School and Placement Centre (CP5) in Slobozia received children with learning disabilities from four surrounding counties. EU directives now state that Placement Centres must close. Although the intention is for them to return to their families, in many cases this does not happen, therefore we must find an alternative to protect these young people with learning disabilities.
From 1996 the Foundation has worked with this disadvantaged group to help them in their suffering - the way we are doing this is outlined in the following pages. As a charity (Founded in Romania but financially supported since 2003 by the UK Registered charity of the same name) we have the following objectives:
To take care, to educate and to professionally guide the young people
To provide medical assistance to young people with severe mental and medical problems
To provide safe accommodation and a social skills programme to enable the young people to develop their potential
To develop occupational therapy activities, with other local services where possible, to enable the young people to experience some integration with the local community
Please help us to deliver these objectives…
