Dear supporters of Fundatia New Life
Once again I have been lucky enough to enjoy a couple of days staying with fundatia new life at their home in Amara. As soon as I arrived I was given a warm welcome and shown to a special letter waiting for me that once opened said “Welcome to Amara” in giant letters. Such warmth and generosity is very true to the feelings that I encounter everytime I visit the house in Amara. I am pleased to tell you that everyone at the house is doing well and there is a feeling of excitement at the moment. Not just because I am here to spend a few days with them but because in a few days they will all be going on a summer camp to the mountains. This will be a wonderful experience for the boys at Amara being able to go out and visit another part of their country and to integrate into everyday society too.
The house currently has a rather mischeavious new member in the from of a small kitten that appeared a few weeks ago. A stray with a real zest for life that for me was symbollic as it really ties in perfectly with the work that Fundatia New Life does. The boys with nowhere else to go were pretty similar to strays in their own country but with a similar passion and zest for life the house at Amara has evolved into a haven for these boys. So it is with no surprise that the cat too seems to have found his place at Amara. For now anyway! He is overly confident to the extent of chasing chickens 10x as big as him.
Times are still tough in Romania as they are across the world so every penny has to be spent wisely. With the cost of food and fuel still very high this if often difficult. Thankfully the county council still supports the house at Amara however this funding is not forever and Fundatia New Life may soon again be looking for support from another source. So any support that anyone can offer is always greatly received no matter how big or small it might be. Whenever I talk about Romania to my friends and people that I meet I always talk about the house at Amara at how I truly feel it is an amazing example as to how a family run house is the best caring environment anyone could be in. I would love to share the uplifting experience of visiting Amara with everyone and will gladly do anything in my power to ensure that the important work Fundatia New Life is doing continues.

On the 22nd of May, we celebrated Emil. He is the oldest boy at the house and I can not belive that he just turned 32 years old! Guess that means I am getting old, too!
Our newest friend, Mrs. Mihaela, couldn't miss the party and, as usual, she brought the birthday cake.
But, this time, not only that she kindly offered the cake! She had a step forward and she even helped Emil to serve it!

Just like it happens all over the world, the weather has gone crazy in Romania, too! After a very long winter, when we nearly lost our hope that the spring will ever come, we went straith to summer. That confused us a little bit as we had a certain plan of when to start working the land.
Even so, we couldn't wait too much. As soon as the weather got warmer, we got the tools and went in the garden to prepare the soil.
Then, when we were in the proccess of planting the seeds, a major problem striked: the city hall of Amara couldn't provide the running water anymore for the hole city. Therefore, we had to find a solution to the problem.
And the solution was a new pump for the well we had in the garden since the opening of the house 10 years ago.
The new pump is set and working now so we hope for good crops in the autumn.

In one of the Christmas days, last year, as we were all in the big activity room, Gabi (who else could have been?) noticed that a unknown, red car parked outside, right in front of the house. I've rushed out to see who it was. A lady got out of the car and asked about Fundatia New Life. She introduced herself as Mrs Mihaela and she told us how she heard about our boys from a friend. After she met each one of the boys, she offered to buy for them jackets and new shoes. Then, a coulple of days later she comes back at the house with seven new winter jackets and seven pairs of winter shoes.
Talking to Mrs Mihaela, I told her the story of each boy in the house and we've realised that the "birthdays season" was about to begin. First one on the list: Vali, followed by Marius and Sandu. This was the moment when she promised to buy a birthday cake for every birthday. So far, she kept her promise!
Well, two more birthdays are coming very soon: Fanel and Emil! And, as you can guess, Mrs. Mihaela is very aware of that!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Meantime, on the 7th of May we celebrated Fanel's 29th anniversary. As she promised, Mrs Mihaela brought the birthday cake and we had a lovely time outside in the sun.

Last december, for the first time in Romania, somebody had the ideea of a show in the benefit of Fundatia New Life.
Prof. Martinescu, a teacher at the local school in Amara and a very old friend of the house, had this ideea. As Christmas was coming, he used the opportunity to get together in the sports hall, teachers, parents and students from the school. And, of course, our boys!
It was a great day and it was wonderfull to see the kids from Amara performing for a cause. At the end of the show, Prof. Martinescu colected some money that were offered to us to be used for the running expenses of the house.
Thank you, Prof. Martinescu, for all the effort and for making our boys known in the community!
